About Salt of the Art

Hiya!!!! My name is Judith, Long for Judy.. I live in fun and free North West Montana and I love to paint with Acrylics in my rare free time and clean up after a 25 year old African gray named Rockieeeeee--

My story first started when at a loss what to do with my life at the age of 30. I had hit as far as I could progress at the hospital I worked at and the only thing I could really focus on was art. I tried opening up an Etsy site selling hand painted jars (with animals on them) full of bath salts hence my name Salt of the Art.

Being very unskilled at the online business world I made zero sales and took this as a personal blow. I decided to force myself to go to college with the hopes of a degree in micro biology of some sorts. I found out not much has change since school. I was still the person in class who as much as they tried could not focus on what was being said. It was a struggle now as it was then. I finished my semester at Missoula University with no desire to keep going. It wasn't what I wanted to do and forcing myself to do it was not making me any happier. I'll admit that night I made the decision, I came home and had a bit to much to drink and pulled out my old doodles and started getting sad about where I was in life (darn you booze!!!!) and the thought of going back to a job that ill not progress any farther than where I was was unbearable and sad.

I found some drawing of people at work that I never finished. Being as bold as I was with liquid courage in me, I brushed off my hardly used wacom digital tablet and jokingly colored them in. I glued them onto magnets after printing them out and amazingly enough I was excited to go to work they next day to show the owners. Everyone at work loved them and soon I was encouraged to make everyone. I tried my best to get people at work created into magnets but eventually I was being asked to make their pets. So I did and then shortly opened up my Etsy site, Salt of the Art, again in November and began selling them. By the end of the year in 2016 I had 200 different animal magnets.

Now in 2026 !! Woahie!! I've got over 4,000 different animals! I continue to draw them by hand and color them digitally stroke by stroke from my art program made in 2015!

  • This is one of six delightful items I purchased; five were from the artist's list of flawed pieces. Honestly, I can't find any issues, neither could my partner. They're all high quality and lovely.
